about us
Hey love,
I spent ten years as a fashion MD, chasing trends that moved faster than I could keep up with, wearing the same grey blazer to an office that felt a little greyer every year. At some point I stopped asking "what's next" and started asking "is this actually my life?"
So I left. Bought a ticket to Bali and didn't plan much past that.
That's where I found Batik. Real Batik, not the printed kind you see everywhere now. I'd sit and watch artisans dip a canting into hot wax and trace each line by hand, slow, unhurried, no rush to make it look like the last one. The fabric dried in the sun, not a machine. Somewhere between the rice fields and the smell of beeswax, I remembered what it felt like to breathe.
Banua started there
We work with batik artisans in Bali on hundreds of hand-stamped colors and patterns, because you should get to pick a color that actually matches how you feel, not settle for whatever's in stock. And even within the same pattern, every piece comes out a little different. The pressure of the hand changes. The sun that day changes. So the pattern does too. We didn't design that in - it just happens, and honestly, we think it's the best part.
We call it Soulful Imperfection. Basically: we'd rather sell you something a person actually made than something a machine perfected.
Every piece has flexible sizing built in, so it moves with your body instead of asking your body to fit it. Whether you're having a slow morning at home, meditating, or halfway across the world, we just want Banua to give you a little more room to be yourself. No apologies needed.
With love,
Jinnie
